Vicki performs all body
piercings that she deems safe. If you have questions about a unique piercing please contact her for her professional opinion. Ancient Art does
not perform any body piercings with a gun. Traditional piercing guns cannot be sterilized and are potential for cross-contamination. They do not actually make a hole and instead use blunt force to push the jewelry through your tissue. This causes extended healing periods and excess swelling. This site explains the dangers of piercing guns. All piercings are done with a single
use sterile needle. Vicki performs all standard body piercings,
surface piercings, dermal anchors, and piercings that connect multiple
holes. Please see her portfolio for more information. Numbing is available free of charge in
a topical form when requested. Please call the shop or contact Vicki
for more information regarding numbing. ![]() Surface piercings are body piercings in non-traditional locations where there is no fold of tissue in which to place them. For example, Vicki does surface piercings on the nape, hips, and clavicles.
If you are
interested in getting a surface piercing please
contact Vicki. You must come by the shop so she can feel
the skin you are wanting pierced. Some people's anatomy is not suitable
for these piercings. The rejection rate on these piercings is higher
than that of a normal piercing, and the surface piercing with the
least amount of complications is the nape of the neck.
A dermal anchor is similar to a
surface piercing because it can be performed in non-traditional
locations more freely than a surface barbell. You can change
the ends of the jewelry after it is healed to switch the color of the gems
or change the appearance of the piercing. The jewelry must be
professionally removed whenever it is healed and anchored to a clients
body. If you are planning on getting a dermal anchor please contact Vicki. She would prefer clients come in for a consult prior to getting the piercing done. Even though many shops like Hot Topic and Spencers sell tapers, having a professional talk to you about your stretching methods is optimal. Stretching too fast can have unwanted consequences and results in blowouts, where the skin pushes out from inside the piercing. ![]() Inserting body jewelry is meant to be done by a professional. The shop has almost every tool ever made for jewelry insertion. Simple basic rings require tools for opening and closing.
If you have an upcoming surgery,
Vicki handles these situations often. More than likely, you will be
required to remove your metal jewelry for the procedure. The shop
sells retainers (glass and plastic) that can be worn throughout your
procedure. ![]() If you have a piercing that you cannot insert jewelry in yourself, you should stop by the shop and let a professional try. Vicki has tools and threaded tapers that help with jewelry insertion. Depending on the length of time you have had the piercing, and how long the piercing has been out for, she will advise you on what you can do with your piercing.
Next time you struggle trying to get
a piece of jewelry in for an hour, simply come by the shop for a
quick five minute piercing reopening.
